Campus Master Plan

The 2020 Campus Master Plan seeks to honor Lees-McRae's rich history and mountain context while supporting the College's new strategic initiatives. A wide-reaching and collaborative approach was fundamental to the plan visioning process, involving multiple cycles of input, analysis and feedback from the steering committee, students, staff, faculty, Board of Trustees, as well as local and regional stakeholders. Additionally, the process included a Facilities Condition Assessment, Utilization and Space Needs Analysis, and a Resilience Planning Workshop with local and regional representatives. Key recommendations for the near term include the renovation of three historic buildings and a new residence hall for a new First-Year Experience community, renovation and new construction for many student life spaces including the dining hall, student recreation center, student success center, and admissions/welcome center. The extension of Swank Park, Core Campus Greenway enhancements, New Central and Academic Commons Plazas and New Union Greenspace will reinforce campus connectivity and engagement with the outdoors while improving accessibility and pedestrian circulation on the core campus.
