As chief operations officer, Nick Vlattas had a profound affect on the finances, operations and management of the firm. During his time as COO, he was a solid day-to-day resource for the firm, its employees, and clients, known for his accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability. Over the years, he has also served as principal-in-charge, quality assurance/quality control officer, project manager, and project architect on more than 75 projects. During his 40-plus years with the firm, Nick played key roles in its growth and the expansion of its practice. He assured that Hanbury was on the leading edge of technology as it related to the architectural industry, and worked with design teams to assure client specifications with regard to cost, quality, and schedule are met.

In support of his personal goal to help others succeed, Nick is a proponent of programs that nurture employee growth. In 2003, he launched the highly successful Summer Scholars program, in which over 50 students from 23 universities have participated over the years. He also encouraged development of the Academy, a diverse in-house continuing education effort.

"As an arranger and an organizer, I love the 'alpha and omega' of a project. I like to put together the path toward its vision and see it through to the stage where the client's expectations have been exceeded and people's lives are impacted by our design."
